UX Writing: The Invisible Hero of Your Interface

May 5, 2025 1 min read 18 People Read

UX Writing covers all text in the user interface and is as important as good UI design!

Characteristics of good UX text:

  • Clear: Uses everyday language instead of jargon, easy to understand
  • Brief: Says "increase" instead of "increase of up to 61 characters"
  • Useful: Tells the user what to do
  • Consistent: Uses the same terminology across all platforms
  • Human-focused: Speaks the user's language instead of technical terms

Common UX writing examples:

  • CTA buttons
  • Error messages
  • Confirmation notifications
  • Empty state texts
  • Form labels

Tip: Use friendly "Sorry, the server is busy. Please try again shortly." instead of technical "Error code: 507".
