A/B testing is a powerful UX research method that measures which of two variations of a user interface performs better by comparing them.
5 steps for effective A/B testing:
- 1. Form a hypothesis: 'This change will improve this metric for this reason'
- 2. Determine a single variable: Change only one element at a time
- 3. Use sufficient sample size: Min. 1000 views for statistical significance
- 4. Plan test duration correctly: At least 1 week, ideally 2-4 weeks
- 5. Analyze results: Check statistical significance (p-value)
Ideal elements for A/B testing:
- CTA buttons (color, text, size)
- Headings and subheadings
- Form fields and layout
- Pricing presentation
- Visual elements
Remember: A/B testing is a marathon, not a sprint. Continuous small improvements create big effects over time.
